Aretha Franklin’s ‘Amazing Grace’ to open 2019 Ebertfest

All the fans of Aretha Franklin have got a reason to smile as they will soon be able to see the magic of the late American singer-songwriter.

As per the latest Hollywood news, the Aretha Franklin concert film titled ‘Amazing Grace’ will open the 2019 Roger Ebert film festival in Champaign-Urbana.

The University of Illinois said that the 1972 film directed by Sydney Pollack is stored in a safe from decades and now it is being restored and released. The film will kick-start this year's Ebertfest, followed by a live community choir performance.

Chaz Ebert, Co-founder Ebertfest said the rather than opening the traditional musical, this year the festival will start with “a glorious, gospel-infused high note.”

The annual ceremony honors Ebert, the late Chicago Sun-Times film critic. It will last long from April 10 to April 13 at Champaign’s Virginia Theatre. More movies and a screening schedule will be released soon.

Due to pancreatic cancer, Franklin passed away at the age of 76 in August, last year.

The singer is famous for hits like 'Respect', 'Natural Woman' and 'I say a little prayer', was paid tribute by many artists including Ariana Grande, Madonna, Elton John, Dwayne Johnson, Beyonce, Jay-Z. Amongst many others at various music performances and events last year.
