Unique-Shaped Spider Named After Hogwarts Sorting Hat in Harry Potter

A new discovery, Eriovixia gryffindori.

In a forest of the Southern part of India, Karnataka, a team of researchers observed a particularly strange-looking spider found in a shrub which is about 4 feet (1.2 m) off the ground.

In a new study, the author details the creature’s greyish-brown colorful body, which was seen with dark brown dots, and sprayed or covered with white and light yellow hairs fused with the surrounding greenness. After taking a little time to think, the team decided to name the new spider species after Hogwarts’ co-founder and the original owner of the Sorting Hat, regarding the creature with great awe as wizard Godric Gryffindor. The official name of the spider is Eriovixia gryffindori.


In a study which was published in the Indian Journal of Arachnology, she wrote, the researchers describe their distinguishing name choice as it is like a poem from the authors, for the lost magic, and found, in an effort to grab the attention to the captivating thing.
